Silk PLA — Glossy, Polished, and Premium Straight Off the Build Plate

Silk PLA produces prints with a smooth, lustrous finish that catches and reflects light like polished metal or silk fabric. The glossy sheen gives every print a premium, high-end appearance without any post-processing — no sanding, no painting, no clear coat. It’s the filament that makes prints look expensive.

It prints with standard PLA settings on any FDM printer. Same temperatures, same speeds, no special hardware — the silk effect is built into the filament formulation.

How the Silk Effect Works

Silk PLA contains additives that create a smooth, reflective surface layer as each line is extruded. Light reflects off this surface at varying angles, producing the characteristic glossy, almost metallic shimmer. The effect is most pronounced on curved surfaces, gentle slopes, and rounded geometry where light plays across the print from multiple angles.

Higher nozzle temperatures (210–220°C) produce a more intense sheen. Lower temperatures (190–200°C) give a subtler lustre.

Silk vs Matte vs Standard PLA

Silk PLA

Glossy, shimmery, metallic-looking finish. Catches light dramatically. Layer lines are visible but softened by the silk sheen. Best for decorative pieces, gifts, and visual impact.

Matte PLA

Soft, non-reflective finish. Hides layer lines the best of any PLA type. Best for display models, cosplay, and refined aesthetics.

Standard PLA

Neutral semi-gloss finish. Most versatile for everyday printing. Widest colour range. Best value.

Each finish has its strengths — silk for maximum visual impact, matte for hiding imperfections, standard for versatility.

Nozzle temperature: 190–220°C (higher = more glossy sheen)

Print speed: 50–200 mm/s

Drying: 50°C for 6+ hours if moisture issues appear
