Description
QIDI Q2 — Bambu-Level Speed with an Open, Klipper-Based Ecosystem
The QIDI Q2 is a compact, fully enclosed CoreXY printer that packs pro-grade engineering material capability into an entry-to-mid-range price point. With a 65°C actively heated chamber, a 370°C hotend, zero-offset auto leveling, and speeds up to 600mm/s, the Q2 is built for makers who want genuine ABS, PC, nylon, and carbon-fibre-composite printing without stepping up to premium pricing — and without being locked into a closed ecosystem.
Running on open Klipper firmware, the Q2 is fully compatible with OrcaSlicer and PrusaSlicer in addition to QIDI’s own QIDI Studio, giving experienced users full access to tune the machine exactly how they want.
Zero-Offset Auto Leveling — The Nozzle Is the Sensor
The Q2’s leveling system eliminates probe offset entirely by using the nozzle itself as the contact sensor via an integrated loadcell in the hotend assembly. This direct-contact approach means no probe calibration, no guesswork, and no offset drift — just real, physical contact measurement that’s unaffected by bed surface reflectivity, texture, or ambient vibration. The result is consistently accurate first layers across every print, every material.
370°C Hotend + 65°C Active Chamber
The Q2 uses a tri-metal hotend design with a lock-proof bimetal nozzle reaching up to 370°C, paired with a second-generation PTC-heated chamber that actively holds up to 65°C. Together, this combination handles serious engineering materials — ABS, ASA, PC, nylon (PA), PAHT-CF, PET-CF, PA12-CF, ABS-GF25, and even PPS-CF composites — with the warping and layer adhesion improvements that only an actively heated chamber can provide.
Speed Without Sacrificing Precision
Rated for up to 600mm/s toolhead speed and 20,000mm/s² acceleration, the Q2 sits firmly in the top speed tier for its price range. A new 1.5GT custom belt with higher tooth density smooths out motion and minimises vibration frequency artifacts (VFA) — the rippled surface lines common on fast printers — while smart resonance control (Input Shaping) works alongside the belts to keep prints clean even at speed. The full-metal frame and precision bearings, plus high-hardness linear guide rails on the X-axis and dual independent lead screw motors on the Z-axis, maintain accuracy over long-term, heavy use.
Open Ecosystem — Klipper Firmware
Unlike closed-ecosystem printers, the Q2 runs on open-source Klipper firmware. QIDI Studio (based on Bambu Studio, itself a fork of PrusaSlicer) is the recommended slicer with pre-configured material profiles and one-click submission — but because it’s Klipper underneath, the Q2 is fully compatible with OrcaSlicer and PrusaSlicer too, and advanced users can adjust virtually any behaviour through Klipper config files directly.
Multi-Colour with the Optional QIDI Box
Add the QIDI Box for multi-material and multi-colour printing — up to 16 colours when chaining four units. The Box features a hardened steel dual-gear extruder built for challenging materials like carbon fibre, a built-in 65°C drying system to keep filament dry-while-printing, automatic filament reloading to minimise manual intervention, and NFC recognition that automatically applies the correct settings for QIDI filament.
AI Camera & Safety Monitoring
The integrated HD camera (up to 1080p) uses AI detection to identify print failures like spaghetti and automatically pause the print before wasting material or risking damage — with time-lapse recording built in. Multiple sensors and closed-loop temperature control work with the flame-retardant chamber for safe indoor operation. The Q2 is the first entry-level 3D printer to achieve US MET certification, meeting Nationally Recognised Testing Laboratory standards accredited by OSHA.
3-in-1 Air Filtration
A G3 pre-filter, H12 HEPA filter, and coconut shell activated carbon filter work together to reduce odours and harmful particles — particularly important when printing ABS and other fume-producing materials indoors.
Connectivity
QIDI Cloud for remote monitoring, 2.4G/5G Wi-Fi, Ethernet (LAN) for stable wired local control, and fully offline USB printing when you don’t want any network connection at all.
A Few Things to Know
TPU Compatibility
The Q2 handles TPU/TPE with a recommended hardness of 95A. Materials softer than 85A may see reduced print quality — check QIDI’s TPU printing guide for feeding tips specific to flexible filaments.
Nozzles Aren’t Interchangeable with the Plus4
Despite a similar structure, Q2 nozzles are a different length to Plus4 nozzles. Don’t cross-use nozzles between the two printers — it will affect print quality.
Full Bed Access
Out of the box, QIDI Studio sets a small exclusion zone (11 × 16mm) in the front-left corner to protect the filament cutter mechanism. Removing the cutter (two screws) and clearing the excluded area in settings unlocks the full stated build volume.
Supported Materials
PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, PA, PC, PPS-CF, and other carbon/glass fibre composite materials.
