Description

Bambu Lab H2C — Multi-Material Printing Without the Purge Waste

The Bambu Lab H2C is built around the Vortek Hotend Change System — six interchangeable, contactless hotends (plus a seventh slot for support or an extra colour) that swap in and out during a print instead of pushing multiple filaments through a single shared nozzle. The result is genuine multi-material and multi-colour printing with dramatically less purge waste than AMS-only or MMU-style systems, combined with 8-second induction heating that keeps tool changes fast.

This AMS Combo package includes 8 hotends and 1 AMS 2 Pro, giving you a strong starting point for multi-colour and multi-material printing straight out of the box — expandable later to the full 7-hotend, 24-filament Vortek experience.

Vortek Hotend Change — How It’s Different

Rather than retracting and purging filament through one nozzle every time a colour or material changes (the AMS/MMU approach), the H2C physically swaps between dedicated hotends that connect contactlessly to the toolhead — no mechanical connectors to wear out, no purge cycle between most changes. The “Hotend Remembers” function tracks which filament was last assigned to each hotend and can reuse that assignment automatically, skipping the purge-clean cycle entirely when you’re using seven or fewer filaments in a job.

Paired with AMS units, the H2C’s intelligent allocation algorithm manages up to 24 filaments — colour count is no longer limited by the number of physical toolheads.

8-Second Induction Heating

Each hotend heats via contactless induction in around 8 seconds (measured with Bambu PLA Basic) — dramatically faster than resistive heating on a shared single nozzle. Combined with the Vortek swap mechanism, this keeps multi-material and multi-colour prints moving quickly rather than stalling on temperature changes.

What’s Included — 8 Hotends + AMS 2 Pro

Right Hotends (Induction) — 4 total

3 × 0.4mm hardened steel induction hotends (1 pre-installed, 3 in the accessory box), plus 1 × 0.2mm and 1 × 0.6mm induction hotend in the accessory box.

Left Hotends (Standard) — 2 total

2 × 0.4mm hardened steel standard hotends (1 pre-installed, 1 in the accessory box).

Included AMS

1 × AMS 2 Pro, supplying up to 4 filaments to the right-side induction hotends.

Firmware currently supports mixed flow-rate printing (standard + high flow) at the same nozzle size, but does not yet support mixing different nozzle sizes within the same print.

Expanding to the Full Vortek Experience

To fully utilise all 6 Vortek hotends, Bambu Lab recommends adding: 3 × 0.4mm induction hotends, 1 × 0.2mm left hotend, 1 × 0.6mm left hotend, 1 × AMS 2 Pro, and 1 × AMS HT. Combined with the AMS 2 Pro included in this Combo, that gives you 2 × AMS 2 Pro (feeding the right induction hotends) + 1 × AMS HT (feeding the left hotends) — full 7-hotend automatic swapping with AMS support on both sides.

A future Filament Track Switch Module (expected 2026) will enable full 7-hotend support using only 2 AMS units, allowing free filament switching between the left and right filament paths.

65°C Active Heated Chamber

The fully enclosed, flame-retardant chamber (UL94 V-0 grade) actively heats to 65°C with adaptive airflow — the stable, warm environment needed for warp-free ABS, ASA, PC, PA, and carbon/glass fibre reinforced composites. An automatic system also manages the chamber for lower-temperature materials like PLA and PETG with the door closed.

AI Error Detection

A quad-camera computer vision system backed by 59 integrated sensors runs Bambu’s proprietary neural algorithm for real-time diagnostics — automatically catching failures like spaghetti, nozzle clumping, and air printing as they happen. An AI-backed nozzle camera with a macro lens continuously monitors extrusion for material accumulation and deviation. Before each print, the vision system scans the build plate for debris and verifies your settings, so every print starts clean.

Precision & Reliability

A Vision Encoder system (optional for Motion Accuracy Enhancement) keeps movement accuracy below 50 micrometres. The PMSM servo extruder generates up to 10kg of force for consistent flow control and clog prevention, even at high speed. Fully automatic inductive nozzle offset calibration achieves accuracy within 25 microns with no manual steps.

Triple-Stage Air Filtration

A G3 pre-filter, H12 HEPA filter, and activated carbon filter work together to minimise harmful particulates and odours — essential when printing high-temperature engineering filaments indoors.

Optional Laser & Cutting Modules

The H2C supports optional 10W or 40W laser modules and a blade-cutting module, extending the printer beyond FDM into engraving, cutting, and mixed-media projects. Note: due to safety protocol, Developer Mode cannot be enabled while using laser or cutting functions.

Connectivity

Full cloud connectivity for remote control from any device, or complete offline functionality for security-sensitive environments — operate the printer, send files, and update firmware with no internet connection required. Developer Mode enables MQTT port access for advanced third-party integration.

Supported Materials

PLA, PETG, TPU, PVA, BVOH, ABS, ASA, PC, PA, PET, PPS, plus carbon and glass fibre reinforced PLA, PETG, PA, PET, PC, ABS, ASA, PPA, and PPS.

Important Notes

Connecting more than one AMS (including AMS 2 Pro or AMS HT) requires a 4-in-1 PTFE Adapter (sold separately). H2C build plates are slightly smaller than H2D plates and not interchangeable — however, vision calibration plates, laser platforms, and blade-cutting mats are fully compatible across the H2 series. H2D and H2S owners can upgrade to H2C via the Vortek Upgrade Kit (expected early 2026), though Bambu Lab notes this upgrade is complex and time-consuming — purchasing the H2C directly is recommended for anyone specifically wanting the Vortek experience.

  1. Sarah P.

Andrew and Helen are the most amazing helpful people I have ever had the privilege to meet. They are both very helpful and are always willing to help with any questions I may have.
The filament they stock is incredible and so reasonably priced
