Nickel-Plated Extruder Gear Assembly for Bambu Lab P2S
The P2S already ships with hardened steel drive gears — an upgrade over the stainless-steel gears on the P1S. But hardened steel has one weak point: moisture. Water vapour in the air can cause hardened steel to rust over time, and even a thin rust layer binds the gears, increases feeding resistance, and leads to inconsistent extrusion. This nickel-plated version solves that by adding a corrosion-resistant surface on top of the same hardened steel core — giving you the wear resistance of hardened steel without the long-term rust risk.
Why Nickel Plating Matters
Nickel plating adds a smooth, corrosion-resistant finish over the hardened steel gear surface. This reduces friction during feeding, keeps the gear teeth cleaner over time, and specifically helps with materials like nylon that tend to leave deposits on standard gear surfaces. The result is smoother, quieter filament feeding that stays consistent even in humid conditions or after extended storage periods between prints.
HRC 63–68 Hardness
The gear set is hardened to HRC 63–68 — genuinely high hardness that resists wear from repeated filament engagement, including abrasive materials. Combined with high-precision machining and an integrated bearing structure, this reduces eccentric rotation caused by assembly tolerances, delivering more uniform 1.75mm filament feeding across PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU, ASA, and abrasive composites.
Why Upgrade the Extruder Gears at All?
A hardened nozzle protects against nozzle bore wear, but it’s not the whole story — carbon fibre and other abrasive filaments also wear the extruder drive gears themselves. Worn stock gears grip less firmly, increase feeding resistance, and put additional stress on the nozzle and the rest of the feeding path as they degrade. Upgrading to a nickel-plated hardened gear set addresses this wear point directly, keeping the entire filament path performing consistently for longer.
Tool-Free Modular Replacement
The gear assembly uses a modular design for quick disassembly and replacement — no tools required for the core swap, minimising printer downtime when it’s time to service the extruder.

Lubrication Note
Do not apply lubricating oil to the gear assembly. If lubrication is genuinely needed, use grease only, applied carefully and sparingly to the gear meshing area and shaft/axle — avoid contaminating the filament path. In most cases, no additional lubrication is required.
Compatibility
Bambu Lab P2S / P2 series.
Not compatible with the P1S, P1P, X1C, H2D, H2C, or A1 series — each Bambu Lab printer family uses its own extruder gear interface.
Installation
Remove the toolhead housing, release the filament cutter, disconnect the pneumatic connector and PTFE tube, remove the extruder, then separate the extruder front cover from the gear assembly to access it for replacement.
