Description
Phaetus Silicon Carbide Nextruder Nozzle for Prusa — Maximum Wear Resistance
The Phaetus Silicon Carbide (SiC) Nozzle for Prusa’s Nextruder platform pairs a silicon carbide tip — with a Mohs hardness of 9.8, just below diamond — with EndCoat™ patented coating for dual wear-resistant protection. Phaetus states this delivers up to 7 times the service life of a standard hardened steel nozzle, with an enlarged nozzle chamber supporting a maximum flow rate of 21 mm³/s.
This is an all-metal, fully integrated nozzle designed specifically for the Nextruder’s toolhead architecture on the MK4, MK3.9, and XL.
SiC + EndCoat™ — Dual Wear Protection
Silicon carbide alone is one of the hardest materials used in nozzle manufacturing. Adding EndCoat™ on top creates a dual-layer defence — the SiC body resists bore wear from abrasive particles, while EndCoat™ protects surrounding surfaces. Phaetus rates this combination for standard filaments (PLA, ABS, PETG, TPU) as well as industrial composite materials including carbon fibre, glass fibre, steel-fill, and wood-fill.
Available Sizes
0.4 mm
The standard all-rounder for everyday printing across all materials including carbon fibre and glass fibre composites.
0.6 mm
Higher throughput for fast functional prints. Recommended for abrasive CF and GF filaments where the wider bore reduces clogging risk.
A Note on Real-World Reliability
Independent long-term reviews of the Phaetus SiC Nextruder nozzle on the Prusa XL have reported mixed results — some users report excellent wear resistance with abrasive filaments as expected, while others report faster-than-expected filament buildup on the SiC tip surface requiring more frequent cleaning, and in some cases clogging or nozzle degradation issues. As with any premium nozzle, results can vary with filament quality, print settings, and maintenance habits. Regular cleaning with a brass brush and proper temperature tuning helps minimise buildup issues reported by some users.
