Snapmaker U1 Hardened Steel Hotend — Direct Replacement for Abrasive Filaments
The Snapmaker U1 ships standard with 0.4mm stainless steel hotends, which handle everyday filaments well but wear quickly when printing carbon fibre, glass fibre, metal-filled, or glow-in-the-dark materials. This hardened steel hotend is a direct replacement built specifically to handle those abrasive materials, opening up the U1’s full material range without sacrificing the nozzle’s working life.
Each hotend is a fully integrated unit — heat sink, heat break, ceramic heating element, and nozzle assembled together as a single component, matching the U1’s original interference-fit design for reliable, leak-resistant performance.
Hardened Steel — Built for Abrasive Materials
Standard stainless steel nozzles wear down quickly when abrasive particles pass through the bore repeatedly — the diameter widens, extrusion becomes inconsistent, and print quality drops. Hardened steel resists this wear significantly better, maintaining a precise bore over far more print hours when running carbon-fibre-reinforced, glass-fibre-reinforced, or metal-infused filaments.
Integrated, Non-Serviceable Design
Like the U1’s stock hotends, this hardened steel version integrates the heat sink, heat break, heater block, and nozzle into a single assembled unit using an interference-fit technique. This minimises filament oozing and reduces unwanted heat transfer along the assembly — but it also means these components can’t be individually serviced or replaced. When the hotend reaches end of life, the entire unit is swapped as one part, which is exactly what makes replacement fast and straightforward.
Insulating Silicone Sock Included
Every hardened steel hotend comes with a heat-insulated silicone sock fitted over the heater block, protecting it from filament buildup and helping maintain stable nozzle temperature by reducing heat loss to ambient airflow — particularly useful given the U1’s high-speed part cooling.

0.2 mm
Maximum fine detail. Note: Snapmaker doesn’t recommend running Dynamic Flow Calibration with 0.2mm nozzles, as the calibration becomes unreliable at this bore size.
0.4 mm
The standard all-rounder, matching the U1’s stock nozzle size. Best balance of detail and speed for everyday printing with abrasive materials.
0.6 mm
Higher throughput for faster functional prints. Recommended when working with heavily filled abrasive filaments to reduce clogging risk.
Important — Single Nozzle Size Per Print
The Snapmaker U1 currently does not support mixing different nozzle sizes across its four toolheads within a single print job. All four toolheads need matching nozzle sizes for any given print.
Unlocks the U1’s Full Material Range
With hardened steel hotends installed (and the optional Top Cover fitted), the U1 supports PLA, PETG, TPU, PVA, PET, ABS, ASA, PA, PC, and both carbon-fibre and glass-fibre reinforced polymers — the complete material range the printer is capable of, rather than the more limited set supported by the stock stainless steel hotends alone.
Compatibility
Designed specifically for the Snapmaker U1 and its 4-toolhead FlashSwap-style system. Compatible with all four extruder positions. Not compatible with other Snapmaker printers or non-Snapmaker hotend systems.
Installation
Power off the printer and allow the toolhead to cool. Follow the Snapmaker Wiki’s Hot End Replacement Guide for your specific unit. After replacing, update to Snapmaker Orca V2.3.1 or higher, connect to the printer, and use “Synchronize nozzle information” to sync the new nozzle diameter to the slicer — the print job will not proceed if the slicer and printer nozzle settings don’t match.
