Description

Bambu Lab Filament Buffer — P2S [SA011]

This genuine Bambu Lab Filament Buffer is a special component installed on the back of the P2S, designed to reduce tension fluctuations during filament feeding and ensure smooth, stable supply to the hotend. It’s a spring-loaded buffer module positioned between the AMS (or spool) and the extruder, absorbing slack and tension differences while signalling the AMS when to feed more filament.

What the Filament Buffer Does

As filament moves from the AMS or spool toward the extruder, tension along that path needs to stay consistent — too much resistance and the feeding motor works against it, too little and filament can loop or feed unevenly. The buffer absorbs these variations in real time, keeping extrusion stable and communicating feed status back to the AMS for precise control.

Do You Need One?

If your P2S shipped as the no-AMS version and you want to connect 1 or 2 AMS units (including the original AMS, AMS 2 Pro, or AMS HT), this Filament Buffer is required alongside a Bambu Bus Cable. It’s also required to connect the Exhaust Fan Kit. If you’re connecting more than 2 AMS units, the AMS Hub (or equivalent multi-AMS accessory) is needed in addition to the buffer.

When to Replace

Feed jams, grinding, or constant AMS retry errors that trace back to tension regulation rather than the extruder or hotend, inconsistent filament supply despite correct AMS settings, physical damage to the buffer housing or connector, and as part of general maintenance when troubleshooting persistent feeding faults on the P2S.

A faulty buffer is a common cause of feed jams, grinding noises, and AMS retry errors — if you’ve ruled out the extruder and hotend, the buffer is worth checking next.

Simple Installation

The buffer mounts on the rear of the printer with a couple of screws and a single connector — a straightforward installation with a guide available on the Bambu Lab Wiki.

Compatibility

Bambu Lab P2S
Bambu Lab P2 Series

Important: this part (SA011) is specific to the P2 series. The X1/P1 series uses a different buffer (SA003), and the H2D/H2S/H2C series use their own dedicated buffers (SA009/SA010) — check you’re ordering the correct version for your printer, as these parts are not interchangeable despite similar function.

Installation

Refer to the official Bambu Lab Wiki guide for the P2S Filament Buffer for the complete step-by-step installation procedure.
