This genuine Bambu Lab Filament Buffer manages filament tension along the path between the AMS and the printer’s extruder — smoothing out the feed so filament doesn’t bind, tangle, or feed inconsistently as it travels from spool to nozzle. If your P1P, P1S, X1C, or X1E didn’t originally ship with an AMS, this is one of the accessories you’ll need when adding one.

What the Filament Buffer Does

As filament feeds from the AMS to the extruder, tension along that path needs to stay consistent — too tight, and the AMS’s feeding motor works against resistance; too loose, and filament can loop, tangle, or feed erratically. The buffer sits in the filament path and absorbs these tension variations, keeping feed smooth and predictable regardless of AMS activity, retraction events, or filament changes mid-print.

Do You Need One?

If your printer shipped without an AMS and you’re adding one for the first time, a Filament Buffer is one of the accessories typically required to complete the connection — alongside other components depending on your specific setup, such as a 4-pin cable and PTFE connector. Printers that shipped with an AMS from the factory already have this integrated into their original setup.
