Description

Carbon Fibre Reinforced PLA — Stiffer, Stronger, Still Easy to Print

PLA-CF Carbon Fiber combines the simplicity and low-temperature printability of standard PLA with 16% chopped carbon fibre reinforcement for noticeably increased stiffness, reduced warping, and a professional matte finish. It prints at the same temperatures as regular PLA — no heated chamber, no exotic settings — but produces parts that are significantly more rigid and dimensionally stable.

If you want the structural improvement of carbon fibre without the steep learning curve of engineering filaments like PA-CF or PC-CF, PLA-CF is the entry point. Same printer, same settings, better parts.

Why Choose PLA-CF Over Standard PLA?

Contains 16% chopped carbon fibre for increased stiffness and rigidity
Professional matte surface finish that hides layer lines and print artefacts
Reduced warping and improved dimensional accuracy on larger prints
Better structural integrity for functional parts, jigs, and fixtures
Prints at standard PLA temperatures — no heated chamber required
100% biodegradable using commercial composting
Available in five colours, not just black

The PLA Advantage

Unlike nylon-based carbon fibre filaments (PA-CF), PLA-CF doesn’t require high nozzle temperatures, a heated chamber, or extensive drying before every print. It’s far less moisture-sensitive than PA-CF, making it more forgiving to store and easier to pick up and print with on short notice. The trade-off is that PLA-CF has a lower heat deflection temperature than PA-CF, so it’s not suited for parts that will experience sustained heat above 55–60°C.

For functional parts that stay at room temperature — drone frames, camera mounts, tool holders, jigs, brackets, enclosures, and display pieces — PLA-CF delivers excellent rigidity at a fraction of the effort and cost of engineering-grade composites.

Available in Five Colours

Choose from Black, Blue, Green, Purple, and Red. All colours feature the same 16% carbon fibre reinforced PLA base with a consistent matte finish. Having colour options sets this PLA-CF apart from most competitors, where carbon fibre filament is typically only available in black.

Hardened Steel Nozzle Highly Recommended

The chopped carbon fibre in PLA-CF is abrasive and will gradually wear a standard brass nozzle. A hardened steel extruder and nozzle are highly recommended for extended use. A 0.4 mm nozzle works well, with 0.6 mm preferred for smoother flow and reduced clogging risk with fibre-loaded filaments.

Browse our range of hardened steel nozzles if you need one for your printer.

Ideal Applications

PLA-CF is the right choice when standard PLA isn’t rigid enough but you don’t want the complexity of engineering-grade composites. Common uses include drone frames and arms, camera and GoPro mounts, tool holders and workshop organizers, jigs, fixtures, and alignment tools, enclosure panels and structural brackets, cosplay armour and props that need rigidity, and display models with a premium matte finish.
