Description

Flashforge Extruder Mount Model Cooling Fan for Creator 5 Series

This is the genuine Flashforge model cooling fan mounted on the extruder mount (tool head carriage) of the Creator 5 and Creator 5 Pro. Unlike the individual cooling fan built into each of the four FlashSwap toolheads, this fan is a shared component on the carriage itself — cooling the model as each layer is deposited, regardless of which toolhead is currently active.

Extruder Mount vs Toolhead Fans — What’s the Difference?

The Creator 5’s tool head carriage houses the extruder motor and this model cooling fan, both shared across all four lightweight toolheads as they dock and undock during a print. This is a separate component from the smaller cooling fan built into each individual toolhead’s front cover. If print quality issues persist regardless of which toolhead is active, the shared extruder mount fan is the more likely cause; if the issue follows one specific toolhead, the toolhead’s own fan is more likely at fault.

Why the Model Cooling Fan Matters

As filament is extruded, it needs to cool and solidify quickly enough to hold its shape on overhangs, bridges, and fine features. This fan directs airflow onto the model as each layer is deposited — without adequate cooling, overhangs sag, bridges droop, small features blob together, and layer definition softens across every toolhead, since the fan is shared infrastructure rather than toolhead-specific.

When to Replace

Fan not spinning or spinning intermittently regardless of which toolhead is active, unusual noise — grinding, rattling, or clicking from the carriage area, visibly reduced airflow onto the model, overhangs and bridges suddenly printing poorly across all toolheads despite correct settings, and physical damage to the fan or housing.

Before replacing, check that the fan isn’t simply clogged with dust or filament debris — clearing debris resolves many apparent fan failures without needing a replacement part.

Compatibility

Flashforge Creator 5
Flashforge Creator 5 Pro

Not compatible with the AD5X, AD5M, AD5M Pro, or other Flashforge models — those printers use different toolhead carriage designs.

Installation

Power off the printer and disconnect from mains power before starting. Refer to the official Flashforge Wiki maintenance guide for the Creator 5 series — “Replace the Model Cooling Fan Assembly” — for the complete step-by-step procedure specific to this component.
