How Is TPU 95A Different From Softer Grades Like 90A Or 85A?

The higher the Shore A number, the firmer the material. 95A holds its shape better and prints more reliably than softer grades, closer to a firm rubber than a stretchy band, while 90A and 85A flex and compress more but are noticeably harder to print without a well-tuned setup.

What Temperature And Speed Should I Print TPU 95A At?

Most TPU 95A prints between 210–240°C on the nozzle, with a bed temperature of 30–60°C. Keep print speed slow, generally 20–30mm/s, since printing too fast is the most common cause of buckling and inconsistent extrusion with flexible filaments.

Do I Need A Direct Drive Extruder To Print TPU 95A?

A direct drive extruder is recommended and gives the most reliable results, but 95A is firm enough that it can also be printed on a Bowden setup with reduced speed and minimal retraction, unlike softer TPU grades which struggle much more on Bowden printers.

Why Is My TPU 95A Jamming Or Stringing?

Jamming is almost always caused by printing too fast, too much retraction, or wet filament buckling in the extruder. Stringing usually points to a nozzle temperature that’s slightly too high or moisture in the filament — reducing temperature by 5°C and drying the spool are the first fixes to try.

Does TPU 95A Need To Be Dried Before Printing?

Yes. TPU is highly hygroscopic and absorbs moisture quickly, which causes stringing, surface bubbling, and weak layer adhesion. Dry it before printing if the spool has been open for more than a few days, and store it sealed with desiccant between print sessions.
