Description
Basic Fireproof/Fire Retardant ABS — Standard ABS Strength with Genuine Fire Safety
Fireproof/Fire Retardant ABS is engineered for applications where fire safety isn’t optional — electrical enclosures, automotive components, and industrial housings where a standard flammable filament simply isn’t acceptable. Formulated to meet UL94 V-0 or V-1 flame-retardant standards, this material self-extinguishes quickly when exposed to flame and resists dripping during combustion — the two properties that matter most when fire safety is a genuine design requirement, not an afterthought.
It retains the durability, impact resistance, and heat tolerance that make standard ABS a workhorse engineering material, so you’re not trading strength for fire safety.
UL94 V-0/V-1 — What This Means
UL94 is the industry-standard test for flammability of plastic materials used in devices and appliances. A V-0 rating means the material self-extinguishes within 10 seconds of flame removal with no flaming drips, and a V-1 rating allows self-extinguishing within 30 seconds. Both ratings are significant steps above standard ABS, which continues burning and can produce flaming drips that spread fire.
This matters for any part that sits near electrical components, heat sources, or in an enclosure where a fire hazard would be a genuine safety and liability concern.
No Compromise on Mechanical Properties
Fire retardant additives can sometimes weaken a material’s mechanical performance, but this formulation retains ABS’s core strengths — impact resistance, heat tolerance, and chemical resistance to oils and common solvents. You get genuine fire-safety compliance without sacrificing the structural performance the part actually needs to do its job.
Reduced Warping, Reliable Adhesion
The formulation includes warping reduction and bed adhesion improvements over standard ABS, making it more forgiving to print despite the added flame-retardant chemistry — fewer lifted corners, more consistent first layers, and a smoother path from print bed to finished part.
Print Settings
Nozzle temperature: 240–260°C
Bed temperature: 90–110°C
Print speed: 50–200 mm/s
Enclosure: recommended — reduces warping and improves layer adhesion, standard practice for ABS-family materials
Drying: 60°C for 6+ hours if stringing or surface issues appear
Applications
Electrical enclosures and junction boxes where fire containment is a design requirement
Automotive interior and under-bonnet components near heat sources or electrical systems
Industrial equipment housings and control panel casings
Power supply and battery enclosure components
Any functional part installed in an environment where fire-retardant compliance is specified or required
