3D scanning spray is a fine, temporary coating applied to shiny, dark, transparent, or reflective objects before scanning. It creates a matte, uniform surface that scanners can read accurately, since glossy or see-through surfaces otherwise cause gaps, noise, or distortion in the scan data.
Blue and Orange are self-volatilising sprays that disappear on their own without cleanup — Blue evaporates faster, Orange lasts longer for more complex or time-consuming scans. Green is a bulk spray-gun formula suited to larger objects or production use. Transparent preserves the object’s original colour and detail while still reducing reflections, and White is a permanent, TiO2-free coating for objects that won’t be scanned again.
It depends on the formula. Self-volatilising sprays like AESUB Blue and Orange evaporate completely on their own within a set time, leaving no residue or cleanup required. AESUB White is a permanent coating and will need to be washed or wiped off if you want to return the object to its original finish.
AESUB sprays are formulated to be gentle and residue-free once evaporated, making them safe for most surfaces including models, prototypes, and collectables. As with any coating, it’s worth testing on an inconspicuous area first if you’re working with a particularly sensitive or valuable surface.
Reflective dot markers are placed on an object or in the scanning area to give the scanner clear reference points, helping it align and stitch together multiple scan passes accurately. They’re especially useful on plain, featureless, or symmetrical surfaces where the scanner would otherwise struggle to track position.
Standard reflective dot markers are adhesive and stick directly to the object or surrounding surfaces. Magnetic markers attach to metal surfaces without adhesive, making them reusable and easy to reposition between scans.
Coverage depends on the size and number of objects being scanned, but a single 400ml can typically covers a good number of small to medium objects. For frequent or larger-scale scanning, the 1L bulk spray-gun formula or multi-pack bundles offer better value.
