Glitter PLA — Sparkle Straight Off the Build Plate

Glitter PLA is standard PLA infused with fine glitter particles that catch and reflect light, producing prints with a sparkling, shimmering finish. The glitter effect is visible from every angle and intensifies under direct lighting — making it a standout filament for decorative pieces, gifts, holiday ornaments, and anything where a bit of sparkle adds visual impact.

It prints with standard PLA settings and no special hardware. The only consideration is nozzle size — use 0.4 mm or larger to prevent glitter particles from accumulating and causing partial clogs.

How the Glitter Effect Works

Fine glitter particles are suspended throughout the PLA base material. As each layer is printed, the particles are distributed across the surface, catching light at different angles and creating a sparkling, reflective finish. The effect is subtle in dim lighting and dramatic under direct light or sunlight — prints genuinely sparkle and shimmer when moved or viewed from different positions.

The glitter particles are small enough to flow through a 0.4 mm nozzle without issues, but can accumulate in 0.2 mm nozzles. Stick to 0.4 mm or larger for reliable printing.

Nozzle Considerations

Use a 0.4 mm or larger brass nozzle — this is mandatory for reliable printing. The glitter particles are not abrasive like carbon fibre, so a standard brass nozzle is fine and won’t wear. However, the particles can accumulate in smaller nozzle bores, so avoid 0.2 mm nozzles entirely.

If you notice gradual flow reduction during a long print, the nozzle may be developing partial buildup. A quick cold pull or nozzle cleaning needle clears it.
