Description
Hardened Steel Extruder Gear Kit for Snapmaker U1
This compatible extruder gear upgrade kit is a direct replacement for the factory drive gear inside the Snapmaker U1’s extruder unit — built from hardened steel with a DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating to deliver far stronger filament grip and a significantly longer service life than the original gear accessories.
HRC 63–68 Hardened Steel — Genuine Wear Resistance
The feeding drive gear is machined from hardened steel with a hardness of HRC 63–68, finished with evenly distributed helical coating teeth. The burr-free, smooth tooth surface creates stronger clamping friction on filament — completely avoiding the slipping, skipping, and uneven extrusion that a worn or lower-quality gear produces over time.
Why the Extruder Gear Wears Out First
Across the U1’s toolhead system, the extruder gears wear out faster than the hotends — repeated engagement with filament, particularly abrasive or reinforced materials, gradually rounds off gear teeth and reduces grip force. Snapmaker’s own engineering notes point to this as the reason hardened steel is used for gears specifically, even where stainless steel is sufficient for hotends. This upgrade kit addresses that wear point directly with a harder, more durable gear than standard.
Aluminium Handle & POM Gear Construction
The kit combines an aluminium handle with a POM (engineering plastic) gear component alongside the hardened steel drive gear — a durable, well-balanced assembly designed to hold up under the U1’s repeated toolhead docking and filament-loading cycles.
Direct Replacement — No Modification
This gear kit is exclusively designed for the Snapmaker U1 and directly replaces the original factory gear accessories — no extra modification required for a quick installation and perfect fit with your existing extruder.
When to Replace
Filament slipping or grinding marks appearing on the filament surface, clicking or skipping sounds from the extruder during printing, inconsistent extrusion despite correct settings and dry filament, reduced grip force causing under-extrusion, and visible wear on gear teeth after extended use or heavy filament volume — particularly with abrasive or reinforced filaments.
Compatibility
Snapmaker U1
Not compatible with other Snapmaker printers or non-Snapmaker extruder systems — this gear kit is machined specifically to fit the U1’s extruder unit.
Installation
The driven extruder gear assembly is located inside the extruder unit. Power off the printer and unplug the power cable before starting. Follow the Snapmaker Wiki’s “Driven Extruder Gear Assembly Replacement Guide” for your specific toolhead, which covers removing the toolhead, extruder unit, bearing block, and old gear assembly before installing the replacement.
