Description
Watch Your Prints Change Colour with Body Heat
Temperature Changing PLA is a thermochromic filament that shifts colour when it reaches approximately 33°C — right around body heat. Pick up a print and watch it transform in your hands, set it down and it returns to its original colour as it cools. It’s the same reliable PLA base you already know, with a built-in wow factor that makes every print interactive.
This filament is perfect for gifts, desk toys, display pieces, educational projects, and anything you want people to pick up and play with. It’s also a hit at markets, maker meetups, and school STEM demonstrations where a colour-changing print instantly grabs attention.
How Does It Work?
The filament contains thermochromic pigments that respond to temperature. Below the activation point of approximately 33°C, the print displays its base colour. When warmed — by touch, warm water, sunlight, or ambient heat — it transitions to its secondary colour. The change is fully reversible and repeats indefinitely.
The transition temperature sits right at body heat, so simply holding a print in your hand is enough to trigger the colour shift. This makes the effect effortless to demonstrate without needing any external heat source.
Available Colour Combinations
Choose from six thermochromic colour transitions — the first colour listed is what you see at room temperature, and the second is the colour revealed when warmed:
Grey to White
Orange to Yellow
Blue to White
Orange to White
Green to Yellow
Red to White
Printing Tips
Temperature Changing PLA prints exactly like standard PLA — no special hardware or settings needed. Use a nozzle temperature of 190–220°C, bed temperature of 0–60°C, and print speeds up to 200 mm/s. A heated bed is optional but helps with adhesion on larger prints.
One thing to keep in mind: because the colour change activates around 33°C, prints left in direct sunlight or warm environments may remain in their secondary colour until they cool down. This is normal and part of the thermochromic effect — it’s worth mentioning to customers if you’re selling finished prints.
