Description
The Go-To Filament for Outdoor and UV-Exposed Prints
ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate) is a premium engineering filament built for strength, UV resistance, and long-term weather durability. Where ABS yellows and degrades in sunlight, ASA holds its colour, mechanical properties, and dimensional stability — even after prolonged exposure to harsh Australian sun, rain, and heat.
With a low-gloss, professional finish straight off the print bed, ASA delivers results that look and perform like injection-moulded parts. It shares many of the strengths of ABS — high impact resistance, good temperature tolerance, and easy post-processing with acetone — while adding significantly better weatherability and reduced yellowing over time.
Why Choose ASA Over ABS?
Superior UV resistance — prints maintain colour and strength outdoors for months and years, not weeks
Reduced yellowing compared to ABS under sun exposure
Improved impact resistance and toughness in real-world conditions
High melting point of 113°C for heat-resistant applications
Similar print settings and post-processing to ABS — acetone smoothing works with ASA
Low-gloss matte finish for a clean, professional appearance
Available in nine colours to suit any project
Ideal Applications
ASA is the right choice whenever your printed part will spend time outdoors or in direct sunlight. Common applications include garden fixtures, outdoor enclosures and housings, automotive trim and accessories, drone bodies, signage, solar panel mounts, weatherproof sensor housings, and any functional part that needs to hold up in the elements without fading or cracking.
It also performs well for indoor functional parts where heat resistance and toughness matter — think appliance housings, electrical enclosures, and structural brackets.
Printing Tips for Best Results
ASA prints best in an enclosed printer to minimise warping and reduce fumes. A heated bed at 100–110°C with a glue stick or PEI surface provides strong first-layer adhesion. Print at 240–260°C nozzle temperature with minimal part cooling fan — too much cooling can cause layer splitting.
Good ventilation or an enclosure with a carbon filter is recommended, as ASA produces similar fumes to ABS during printing. A heated chamber is not required but helps with larger prints.
Available in Nine Colours
Choose from Black, White, Grey, Blue, Green, Orange, Purple, Red, and Yellow. All colours use the same UV-stable ASA base, so outdoor performance is consistent regardless of the colour you select.
