Description

What Is ABS Filament?

ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) is one of the most established engineering-grade filaments in desktop 3D printing. It offers a combination of impact resistance, heat tolerance, and machinability that PLA and PETG simply can’t match — making it the go-to choice for functional parts, jigs, fixtures, and prototypes that need to perform under real-world stress.

Smooth Finish with Easy Post-Processing

This Basic ABS filament prints with a smooth, semi-gloss finish and can be sanded, drilled, tapped, and painted for a professional result. It’s also acetone-soluble, which means you can vapour-smooth printed parts to eliminate layer lines entirely — something no other common filament can do.

Printer Requirements

ABS requires a heated bed (100–110°C) and an enclosed printer to manage warping. Open-frame printers will struggle with ABS, especially on larger parts. If you’re running a Bambu Lab P-series, X1C, H2S, or a QIDI Plus 4 or Q1 Pro, you’re well set up for ABS. For open-frame printers, consider ASA or PETG as alternatives.

Key Properties

This ABS filament delivers a tensile strength of 35–40 MPa, a heat deflection temperature around 88°C, and strong chemical resistance. It’s a solid choice for automotive parts, electronics enclosures, drone components, tool holders, and any application where the part needs to hold up to repeated handling or moderate heat.

What Can You Print with ABS?

ABS is ideal for functional parts that need durability and heat resistance. Common applications include electronics enclosures and housings, brackets and mounting hardware, automotive interior components, drone frames and guards, tool holders and jigs, and mechanical prototypes that require post-processing or assembly.
