Description

The Step-Up Filament from PLA — Stronger, Tougher, More Versatile

Basic PETG is one of the most versatile filaments you can stock. It combines easy printing — closer to PLA than to ABS — with real-world strength, impact resistance, and moisture resistance that PLA can’t match. If you’ve been printing everything in PLA and finding that parts crack, flex too much, or degrade outdoors, PETG is the material that fixes those problems without dramatically changing your workflow.

At $16.99 per KG, it’s the same price as our Basic PLA and one of the best value PETG options in Australia. Available in 14 colours, stocked locally in Adelaide with fast shipping Australia-wide.

Why PETG Over PLA?

PLA is a great starting material, but it has real limitations. It’s brittle under impact, softens above 55°C, degrades in sunlight, and absorbs moisture over time. PETG addresses all of these:

Higher impact resistance — PETG bends and flexes before breaking, where PLA snaps
Better heat tolerance — PETG handles temperatures up to approximately 75–80°C before softening
Moisture resistance — PETG doesn’t absorb water the way PLA does, making it more durable in humid or outdoor environments
UV stability — PETG holds up better than PLA under sun exposure
Chemical resistance — PETG resists many household chemicals, oils, and cleaning agents

The trade-off is that PETG is slightly more prone to stringing and requires a heated bed, but for anyone comfortable with basic 3D printing, it’s an easy transition.

14 Colours Available

Choose from Black, White, Grey, Baby Blue, Blue, Pastel Green, Dark Orange, Baby Pink, Red, Dark Yellow, Pearl Golden, Silver, and Transparent. The transparent option is particularly popular for light diffusers, display cases, and decorative prints where translucency adds visual impact.

Ideal Applications

PETG is the right choice for functional parts that need to survive real-world use. Common applications include protective enclosures and housings, snap-fit clips and brackets, outdoor fixtures and garden accessories, food-safe containers (PETG is FDA-approved in raw form, though printed parts have layer gaps), phone cases and protective covers, mechanical parts subject to vibration or impact, and any print that will be exposed to moisture, heat, or UV.

Print Settings

Nozzle temperature: 220–250°C
Bed temperature: 60–80°C
Print speed: 40–90 mm/s
Enclosure: not required
Bed surface: PEI, glass with glue stick, or textured PEI all work well
Drying: 65°C for 4+ hours if stringing or surface quality issues appear

PETG sticks strongly to smooth PEI and glass surfaces — almost too well. If you find parts difficult to remove, use a textured PEI sheet or apply a light layer of glue stick as a release agent.

Cardboard Spool — AMS Compatible

Basic PETG ships on a lightweight 185g cardboard spool that feeds reliably through the Bambu Lab AMS and AMS Lite systems. The cardboard construction is also easier to recycle when the spool is empty.

Storage

PETG is hygroscopic — it absorbs moisture from the air over time. Wet PETG causes stringing, popping sounds during printing, and rough surface texture. For best results, store opened spools in a vacuum-sealed bag with desiccant, or print directly from a filament dryer. If print quality drops after a spool has been sitting out, drying at 65°C for 4+ hours will restore performance.
