Description
Original Prusa XL — Large-Format Multi-Material Toolchanger
The Original Prusa XL is the most advanced desktop 3D printer on the market — a large-format CoreXY with a 360 × 360 × 360 mm build volume and a revolutionary toolchanging system that supports up to 5 independent toolheads. Each toolhead is a complete extruder and hotend, swapped in and out during printing for true multi-material and multi-colour output with zero purge waste using wipe-to-infill technology.
Assembled and pre-calibrated from the factory, the Prusa XL is ready to print out of the box. Start with a single toolhead and upgrade to 2 or 5 as your needs grow — the modular architecture makes every configuration a stepping stone, not a dead end.
Up to 5 Independent Toolheads
The XL’s toolchanger is what sets it apart from every other desktop printer. Each toolhead is a complete, independent printing system — its own Nextruder, its own nozzle, its own filament path. During a print, the active toolhead parks and a new one picks up seamlessly, with no filament mixing and no purge tower waste.
This means genuine multi-material printing — combine PLA with TPU, PETG with PVA soluble support, or print in 5 colours simultaneously. Unlike single-nozzle MMU systems that purge between colours, the XL’s toolchanger eliminates purge waste entirely using wipe-to-infill, saving material and time on every multi-colour print.
16-Segment Heatbed
The XL’s build plate is divided into 16 independently controlled heating segments. Only the segments under your print are heated — the rest stay off. This saves energy, reduces heat-up time, and eliminates the thermal warping that full-surface heatbeds cause on large build plates. For small prints on a large bed, you’re not heating 360 × 360 mm of surface for a part that only occupies one corner.
Nextruder with Load Cell
Every toolhead uses Prusa’s Nextruder — a planetary gearbox extruder with a built-in load cell sensor for fully automatic first layer calibration. The load cell physically measures the nozzle-to-bed distance with micron precision, eliminating manual Z offset adjustment and ensuring perfect first layers on every print, with every toolhead, every time.
The Nextruder also supports quick-swap nozzles — change nozzle sizes in seconds without tools or hot tightening.
Speed & Precision
Input Shaper and Pressure Advance technologies deliver fast, clean printing. Input Shaper compensates for frame vibration at speed, eliminating ringing and ghosting artifacts. Pressure Advance controls filament flow during acceleration and deceleration, producing sharp corners and consistent extrusion at elevated speeds.
Connectivity & Remote Management
Built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet for network printing, Prusa Connect integration for remote monitoring and print management, built-in camera for remote observation and time-lapse recording, and USB for local file transfer. Manage your XL from anywhere on your network or remotely via Prusa Connect.
Upgradeable Architecture
Start with 1 Toolhead
The single-toolhead XL gives you the full 360 × 360 × 360 mm build volume, CoreXY motion system, segmented heatbed, and Nextruder — a premium large-format single-material printer with the option to expand later.
Upgrade to 2 or 5 Toolheads
Add additional toolheads as your needs grow. Each toolhead upgrade kit adds a complete Nextruder assembly and docking station.
Optional Enclosure
An optional enclosure add-on enables printing with temperature-sensitive engineering materials like ABS, ASA, PC, and PA in a controlled chamber environment.
Supported Materials
PLA, PETG, TPU, TPE, PVA, ABS, ASA, PC, PA, HIPS, and carbon fibre composites. Max nozzle temperature 300°C (upgradeable with HT Hotend). Max bed temperature 120°C.
