Description
Basic PETG-GF — Glass Fibre Reinforced PETG at a Budget Price
Basic PETG-GF combines standard PETG with approximately 15% chopped glass fibre, adding stiffness, dimensional stability, and improved heat resistance while keeping the same easy print settings. Glass fibre reinforcement works similarly to carbon fibre — it reduces warping, increases rigidity, and improves the material’s ability to hold its shape under load and heat — but at a lower price point.
At $27.99 per KG on a cardboard spool, it’s one of the most affordable glass fibre composite filaments available.
PETG-GF vs Standard PETG
Standard PETG is tough and impact resistant, but it’s relatively flexible and can creep under sustained load. Adding 15% glass fibre addresses these limitations — parts are noticeably stiffer, hold tighter dimensional tolerances, and withstand higher temperatures before softening. The glass fibre also produces a matte, frosted surface finish that hides layer lines better than glossy standard PETG.
PETG-GF vs PETG-CF
Both are fibre-reinforced PETG with similar benefits — increased stiffness, reduced warping, and a matte finish. Carbon fibre reinforcement (PETG-CF) produces slightly stiffer parts with a darker, more uniform matte finish. Glass fibre (PETG-GF) is more affordable and produces a frosted, semi-translucent matte appearance. Both require hardened steel nozzles due to the abrasive fibre content.
For most functional applications, PETG-GF delivers excellent performance at a lower price. Choose PETG-CF when maximum stiffness and the darkest matte finish are priorities.
Nozzle Considerations
Glass fibre is abrasive and will wear a standard brass nozzle over time. A hardened steel nozzle is recommended for extended use. A 0.4 mm nozzle works well, with 0.6 mm preferred for longer prints and reduced clogging risk from fibre particles.
Print Settings
Nozzle temperature: 220–250°C
Bed temperature: 60–80°C
Print speed: 40–90 mm/s
Diameter: 1.75 mm ±0.05 mm
Nozzle: hardened steel recommended
Enclosure: not required
Drying: 65°C for 4+ hours before use
Spool: cardboard — AMS compatible
Applications
Functional brackets, mounts, and housings that need more rigidity than standard PETG
Parts subject to sustained mechanical load where PETG would creep
Higher-temperature environments where standard PETG begins to soften
Enclosures and panels where dimensional accuracy matters
Any application where you want fibre-reinforced performance at a budget price
